A field of 6 horses going one and an eighth miles at the Big A.
REDDING COLLIERY is in the 1st post coming off an allowance sprint winning by one length. I don’t see REDDING going the distance today as this horse ran 7th in its lone distance race. This colt is hard to recommend at this time. BAD ACTION is 8 for 21 lifetime and just rallied to win the Pegasus G3 at the Meadowlands. He can handle the distance but his Beyer numbers may be indicating a “bounce” after his last 3 outings but he may be able to land a share of the purse in this short field. BIRDRUN was in the money 5 of 7 lifetime races and romped by 8 lengths in his last allowance victory. He may be over his head here in the G3 race but this will be a good test of his ability. HAYNESFIELD is also coming off a win in the Empire Classic at this distance and maintains top jockey Dominguez. This horse showed some talent winning the Gotham and the Whirlaway Stakes and should handle these as he is the morning line favorite. GONE ASTRAY just won the Ohio Derby and the Pa Derby and will need to make it 3 in a row at the 1 1/8 distance. E.Castro is in the irons and he may be Haynesfield’s only competition. PRECURSOR is also coming off a win in the Proud Truth handicap and is definitely racing in “stiffer competition” with these hard hitting colts. His front running style will try to take him wire to wire but I think he is in over his head against these triple digit Beyer runners.
