Gio Ponti is doing extremely well for today's race. Let's just toss out his last race as he didn't like the wet track. He has limited experience over synthetic surfaces but did seem to handle the ground much better training hours right here at Santa Anita. To get the job done he will need to beat, Zenyatta. This mare will take on the boys today. Her main advantage is that she has proven herself on synthetic tracks while her principal rivals have not. She’s the biggest start and will try to make history. Rip van Winkle has the right to show his best. He’s widely regarded as the second-best horse in Europe. He won two straight Group 1 stakes in England after losing by a length to the continent's superstar, Sea the Stars. The Classic will mark his first race on anything other than turf. It also will be his second start in more than three months. He’s in top form and will show his best. Summer Bird is doing extremely well lately. Big speed numbers in his last two races. He’s getting better with each start. Tim Ice has this colt on edge for another big effort.
